In 2016, six CBS operators founded the Container Based Sanitation Alliance (CBSA) as a member-based not- for-profit organisation, to address systemic blockages. As of early 2024, CBSA members operate in 13 countries in Africa, Asia, Europe and Latin America.

To mainstream Container Based Sanitation in low- and middle-income countries, by overcoming barriers to growth and increasing its acceptance, through collective action with our members.

At April 2024, CBSA members:
- Serviced 16,819 CBS toilets
- Served 274,439 people
- Provided over 608 jobs
- Operated in 25 municipalities
In 2023-24:
- Removed 12,378 metric tonnes of sludge
- Generated 372,000 kWh of renewable energy
- Made 3,180 metric tonnes of compost
- Produced 111 metric tonnes of animal feed
- Made 1,125 metric tonnes of briquettes
- Produced 2 metric tonnes of biochar
