A lack of clear cost comparisons has inhibited investment, and the adoption of policy and regulatory environments conducive to fostering CBS. In 2019-20, with worked with an EY team to answer a very simple question: how do the costs of CBS compare with other sanitation options?

EY’s research revealed that CBS models are lower cost than other traditional forms of provision. This should encourage governments, funders and investors to create the conditions in which CBS can truly thrive and help accelerate progress toward the Sustainable Development Goal of equitable sanitation for all.
