We are happy to announce our refreshed CBSA strategy for 2024 to 2027! With thanks to our board, advisors and of course our members and partners for steering us in exciting directions.
If you already know us, you will see familiar strands: we will continue to promote container based sanitation globally, to support our members, to attract new CBS providers, to explore innovative finance options, and to create partnerships to make CBS more familiar.
You may also spot some changes. For instance, the definition of CBS has changed slightly, after our members approved it, to better distinguish what makes this form of sanitation unique (the frequent and professional servicing) and what this enables: reaching informal settlements, enabling better reuse products, less water consumption and fewer carbon emissions, for instance.
Sanitation is a public good, and can only be deployed safely and affordably with strong and enabling government. CBS is no exception.
Rémi Kaupp, the Container Based Sanitation Alliance’s Executive Director
Our focus has evolved, and is now on “mainstreaming” rather than “scaling” CBS. It is more than semantics: we believe that CBS can provide safe sanitation in areas that are hard to serve, and that its provision should grow drastically; but this growth will not happen only through the efforts of our members, as innovative as they are. Sanitation is a public good, and can only be deployed safely and affordably with strong and enabling government. CBS is no exception. We will work even more on the systems that will enable CBS: regulations, standards, procurement and incentives.
Our members have shown that CBS is safe, viable and desired, and serve more than 270,000 people continuously. Let’s convince the authorities and funders who will make it happen at much larger scales.
